Presentation Objectives
  • Interact more confidently with patients in regards to their individual weight and health issues associated with obesity.
  • Educate patients on nutrition as it relates to obesity management and cancer prevention.
  • Understand the link between nutrition and cancer and how nutrition may be used in cancer prevention and/or treatment.
  • Construct an individualized dietary treatment plan for patients affected by overweight or obesity.
  • Determine the best diet plan for each patient based on their unique needs, culture and preferences.

Dr. Michael Ozner is a board-certified cardiologist, a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, medical director of Wellness & Prevention at Baptist Health South Florida, and a regional and national speaker in the field of preventive cardiology. He is the director for the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Annual Symposium and the author of "The Great American Heart Hoax," "Heart Attack Proof," and "The Complete Mediterranean Diet."
 
Cancer Prevention and Treatment via Ketogenic Diets

Dr. Thomas N. Seyfried is a professor of biology at Boston College. He received his PhD in genetics and biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He did his undergraduate work at the University of New England, and also holds a master's degree in genetics from Illinois State University, Normal, IL. He served on the faculty as an assistant professor in neurology at the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Seyfried has more than 170 peer-reviewed publications and is author of the book, "Cancer as a Metabolic Disease."

Krishna Doniparthi, MD, FAARM, FOMA

Dr. Krishna Doniparthi is a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and is board-certified in family medicine and functional medicine (Fellow). He did his residency in family medicine at the University of Alabama, where he was chief resident. Before residency, he published research on pediatric anaplastic thyroid cancer at USUHS in Bethesda, Maryland. Besides obesity medicine, his functional medicine focus is on lipid membrane therapy for neurological conditions, auto-immune, gut microbiome balance, genetic metabolism, and nutrigenomics. Dr. Doniparthi currently serves as a member of the board of trustees for the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA).

Dr. Yancy is a board-certified general internist and obesity medicine physician who is Director of the Duke Diet and Fitness Center and Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University. He is also a Research Scientist in the Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care at the Durham VA Medical Center. With over 100 scientific publications, Dr. Yancy has performed multiple clinical trials investigating the effectiveness and tolerability of multiple diets for weight management.

He is also completed fellowship training and board certification in antiaging andregenerative medicine, and also received training by IFM. Currently, he is pursuing his master's in clinical nutrition. He did research at USUHS in pediatric anaplastic thyroid cancer. His private practice comprises of obesity medicine, functional medicine, and regenerative medicine. He specializes in nutrition and metabolism, membrane lipid therapy, and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

Dr. Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, PhD, RD began her cancer research career at Duke University where she was on faculty for 17 years, then was recruited to MD Anderson and then came to UAB in 2010 as the Associate Director for Cancer Prevention and Control in the Cancer Center. She has authored more than 200 scientific papers and is a Komen Professor of Survivorship and an American Cancer Society (ACS) clinical research professor. She also serves on the ACS Guidelines Panel for Nutrition and Physical Activity.

Board-certified in Family and Preventive Medicine, he is an investigator with the Adventist Health Study 2 (AHS-2), a large NIH-funded study, investigating the relationship of diet to major health outcomes, particularly cancers and mortality. He maintains a small clinical practice and also serves as program director for Loma Linda University's Preventive Medicine Residency.
