Divergence of Patient and Clinician Perceptions of Obesity and Weight Management

Dr. Lee Kaplan is the director of the Obesity, Metabolism and Nutrition Institute and the founding director of the Weight Center at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He also serves as an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kaplan is the director of both the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored Small Animal Metabolic Surgery Core Resource, and the subspecialty fellowship program in obesity medicine and nutrition at MGH. He currently serves as the chairman of the nutrition and obesity section of the American Gastroenterological Association and is the chairman-elect of the bariatric surgery section of The Obesity Society. Dr. Kaplan's clinical expertise is in the areas of obesity medicine, gastroenterology, and liver disease. His research is focused on the physiological and molecular mechanisms of gastrointestinal regulation of energy balance and metabolic function.
