Description: Highlights of the latest updates to the Obesity Algorithm® which is a clinical resource designed to help health care professionals both understand the complexity of the disease of obesity and implement effective, evidence-based treatment strategies with patients will be discussed along with clinical applications

    Objectives:

    • Provide overview of the 2017 Obesity Algorithm
    • Discuss sentinel updates
    • Discuss illustrative examples of clinical applications
    • Describe how updates, authors, algorithm, obesity definition, people first language, office environment, genetics, cancer, obesity paradox, body composition, and energy expenditure all apply to the clinical management of patients with obesity
    • Describe concomitant medications, nutrition, transfats, diet patterns, physical exercise, motivational interviews, behavior therapy, technologies, GI hormones, newer bariatric technologies, micronutrients, minerals/trace elements, and microbiome apply to the clinical management of patients with obesity
    • Apply diverse treatment strategies to patients with various obesity phenotypes
    • Manage secondary causes of obesity
    • Identify concomitant medication issues and individualizing treatment accordingly
    • Describe nutrition, physical activity and psychological interventions for treating obesity
